Interview with Leeds United under 18's Captain - Simon Lenighan

Me - 'The Leeds United football academy, has got a name for itself in producing some of the country's finest talent, most recently the likes of James Milner, Aaron Lennon, and Fabian Delph. Do you feel a degree of pressure, that you could be on that list in the future?'

Lenighan - 'I don't feel under pressure no, everyone at the squad who's our age, just sees it as a massive opportunity to make a name for ourselves. I would love to see my name alongside them lads some day though!'

Me - 'Your manager, Neil Redfearn, gained a lot of credit from first teamers such as Andy Lonergan and Ross McCormack, when he was in the frame to replace Simon Grayson, is it a real boost to have someone as experienced and talented, as Redders?

Lenighan - 'Yes he's a great manager to have by your side.'

Me - 'With the likes of Zac Thompson, Charlie Taylor and Alex Cairns all playing at least once for the first team this season, when they return to the under 18's, can you tell a difference in their game, after they've played alongside the likes of Robert Snodgrass and co ?'

Lenighan - 'Yes you can tell a difference, they've upped their game, and they seem mentally and physically stronger once they've played with the first team.'

Me - 'Now a bit about yourself Si, captaining the under 18's is a key role in itself, however tell us about your individual game, away from the armband?'

Lenighan - 'Well I used to play up front, however in the last year have moved to central midfield or out wide on the wing, I can play in an attacking midfield role, and a defensive one, so a bit of an allrounder really! My main strengths are my athleticism, and strength.'

Me - 'Do the likes of Ben Parker, Tom Lees and until recently Jonny Howson, ever pop in and just give you a bit of encouragment, that they were where you were only a few years ago, and now they've made it?'

Lenighan - 'Yes, they do, and it's really beneficial to us, it really just goes to show, that hard work does pay off!'
