As an interesting encounter loomed over Roots Hall the players warmed up and were ready. With the Cobblers having drawn their last 5 games and The Blues looking for a Play-Off placeit was sure to be an exciting match. As the game started Southend controlled the match and squandered some great chances to get ahead before the half hour. As the much impressed Lee sawyer gave the ball away in his own half Northampton took adavantadge as the Southend defence backed off and let John Johnson score from 25yards. Rhys Evans in the Southend goal was well and truly beaten and the ball rippled the net. 1-0 Northampton. With Southend now pressing for an equaliser the crowds urged on their team. Southend won a corner and Ryan Hall floated it in and Barry Corr smartly left his marker to ensure the Southend comeback was on. Once again the Cobblers maintained possesion and a drilled half-volley by the goal scorer, John Johnson which bounces to the left post whiskers wide.

HALF TIME
As the second half starts Northampton had the most of possesion. During a rather dull second half Lee Sawyer had a chance to snatch the remaining  points and put Southend into the Play-offs but some good blocking inabled him to do so. With the final whistle looming Francis Laurent, against his old club Southend, nearly snatched a dramatic win after he spun off his marker and let fly just inside the box but it wasn't to be. Northampton now stretch their unbeaten run to 8 games and their 6th consecutive draw.
The match finished 1-1

Evans has looked like the first team keeper of late, I think his form must be keeping Morris out. Hopefully this will help Morris fight for his place back. Remember when Flahavan used to have a mid-winter break? He used to come back fighting!

Sawyer definitely has a place in the starting line up. Fantastic work rate despite lacking full fitness. Look forward to seeing more of him as the campaign continues.
